At the end of the day
At the end of the day, who has the final say?
At the end of the day, whose way will stay?
At the end of the day, who will reign supreme?
At the end of the day, who will be your king?
Is it man in all of his faults?
Is it ideals and their lofty goals?
Is it policy written to aid a particular political system?
Is it pride and greed and its seeds of misdeeds?
The answer to our questions
and the solution to our problems
is found in the same thing.
Jesus Christ, the King of kings.
His kingdom will forever stand.
To His government, there will be no end.
His words will never fade away.
His absolute truth will always remain.
To place your faith and trust in anyone less,
for truly everyone is less then He who has all authority,
amounts to equality with idolatry.
Nothing more, nothing less.
An idol is someone or something we place above God.
And my God, how we have idolized every other name!
Isaiah 44:9-20 describes the foolishness of idolatry. It speaks about people who chop down a free, burn half of it for fire, but then carve a god out of the remaining and worship it, thinking that somehow this (literally) man-made wooden image can save them from their problems and bless their lives. Verses 9-11 says those who do this will be collected together and shamed and be ashamed for their foolishness because it is nonsense.
What we have seen occur in the capital city of the United States of America, a country that God has blessed beyond measure, amounts to nothing more than modern day idolatry. On all sides, no matter what party or perspective, this country has long been engaged in the idol making business. It has long practiced idolatry. Idolatry is nothing more than prioritizing someone or something over God YHWH. Men and women and political perspectives have long become the gods of many people and are worshiped instead of the one true God. And when a nation engages in idolatry, it begins a descent into spiritual rottenness. What we have seen is the latest demonstration of the emptiness, selfishness and foolishness the lack of a firm spiritual foundation brings.
Exodus 20:2 is the preface to the Ten Commandments. The Ten Commandments exist and should be followed not because they are law, but because of the preface. What is the preface? "I am the LORD your God." Because YHWH is God, we do not lie, steal, cheat, covet, or make idols. But when God is not relevant nor acknowledged, then neither are His commandments. So we make idols. So we end up with this foolish tragedy and travesty of a mindset and behavioral patterns than glorify anyone but the only One who should be worshiped.
I am frustrated by the events, but I'm more saddened than anything. Because for a nation that sometimes still claims to believe in God, we have completed missed the mark, and today, we have been shamed.
